Remembering.....
Poetry Side Quest #55
Today is the anniversary of a day that shaped the modern world we live in.
I was in 9th grade sitting in my Biology class working on miosis and mitosis paper plates. Then in ran a teacher and out rolled the classroom tv. We watched as the 2nd plane hit.
That may have been the only day the students of my school didn’t doddle during class change and were quick to get to our next class.
It was one of those days that, unknown to me, would be a precursor to many more historical events that my life would see over the next 24 years.
Nothing has been the same. Lives were changed and the world has never been the same.
So I take time today to remember.
Remember, remember Early morning horror Million eyes watched Each moment unfold Murder, terror, planes, Buildings fell and we feared Eager for vengeance - fueled by rage Retribution served by raining fire.
We said we’d never forget. Unless it wasn’t an election year.
We said we’d never forget. Except if you were a first responder.
Remember, remember that we became a different people that day and we lost something.
If you remember where you were on 9/11/2001, feel free to share your story in the comments.
Take a moment today and hug those near you. Tell your loved ones you love them. You are never promised another moment.
